Tara was talking about this amazing, complicated cake she made for Shomir's birthday last week, which prompted me to do this post. Here are two uber-delicious cakes from my recipe box. They are pretty sinful, so we don't have them often, but oh my gosh are they good!
Better Than Sex Cake
(I have NO idea who came up with this title... found the recipe online when I was searching for a solution to a serious chocolate craving, and altered it a little to my own tastes.)
Ingredients:
1 German or Devil's Food Chocolate cake mix (I prefer Duncan Hines brand)
1 jar of Smucker's Caramel topping
1 package Heath toffee chips or roughly chopped Heath Bars
1 container Cool Whip (I prefer homemade whipped cream - be sure to whip it until a little bit stiff)
Make the cake as directed on the box. After baking, let it cool for about 15 minutes, then poke holes in the cake with the end of a wodden spoon. Pour the caramel over the cake. Let the cake and caramel cool completely. Top the cake with whipped cream and place toffee bits on top. Keep cake in the fridge until you're ready to serve.
Strawberry Cake
(This is a combination of two recipes from my grandma.)
Ingredients:
1 box Duncan Hines White cake mix
1 small pkg Strawberry Jell-O
3 Tbsp. flour
3/4 cup sliced/mashed fresh strawberries
2 Tbsp. sugar
4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup water
Combine the cake mix, Jell-O, and flour. Then, add the strawberries and sugar. Mix well. Finally, add the eggs, oil, and water, and beat with mixer on medium speed for a couple minutes.
Grease and flour three 8" round pans. Divide batter evenly into the 3 pans.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Strawberry Frosting
1/2 cup butter
1 box 10-X powdered sugar
1/2 cup strawberries (add more or less until you have a good, spreadable consistency)
This cake is good served either cold or at room temperature.
I'm always looking for new recipes to try. Let me know if you have a favorite!

MMMMM! I am going to make the Strawberry cake for a bridal shower I am hosting this weekend!
Sounds so good!
Laura, I love the recipes! Here is one for dinner...
Mexican Chicken
2/3 cup flour
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp chili powder
3 tbsp oil (whatever kind you like)
Fresh Salsa
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
Shredded Mexican Cheese
Combine the first four ingredients.
Coat the chicken with the mixture.
Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high. Then cook the chicken 3-4 minutes until brown on both sides. Reduce heat and spoon 1 tablespoon or as much as you like of Fresh salsa onto each piece of chicken. Cover it and let it cook until done. Then sprinkle with Mexican Shredded Cheese.
I serve it with Uncle Ben's Country Inn Mexican Fiesta Rice.
Jamie loves it!
Next time I plan on baking it just to try and make it a little bit healthier.
Let me know what you think.
Take care,
Happy St. Patty's Day and Happy Easter.
