More on Jason

I took Jason for his Speech/Language evaluation today.  Both the therapist and I were amazed by Jason's performance.  His receptive language skills (what he demonstrates that he understands) were above average.  His focus during the whole session was better than anything I've ever seen him do, and he answered questions I didn't think he could answer.  However, his spoken language is well below average.  The discrepancy between what he understands and what he can express is huge, so we will be moving forward with speech therapy to help him develop the skills necessary to verbally express all that he apparently knows.

Jason is also currently enduring the absolute worst case of diarrhea he has ever had.  The diaper rash that has developed as a result is horrible, and the poor boy cries in pain often.  If it continues tomorrow, we'll be headed to the doctor, although I really suspect that this is a result of food allergies, as slightly less severe bouts have occurred many times over the last year(s).  Our appointment with the Allergist/Immunologist is set for July 17, and I really hope we get some answers quickly from that.

Since we've been stuck in the house quite a bit due to the rain, I finally got up the nerve to try to trim Jason's hair.  I really wanted to even up the ledge created by the hairstylist at the back of his head, but I also wanted to trim up the rest so that we can go a while longer before paying for a real haircut.  I kind of think that a slightly longer hairstyle might serve him well, since he sports some pretty crazy bedhead and spikes regularly.

Here's the "Before"...

My plan of attack...

The sheet and clips to put around his neck?  Yeah, that didn't work!

Distraction by the name of Willy Wonka (only semi-effective)

The clean-up crew
Here's the "After"...

Not bad for a first attempt.  The ledge isn't completely gone, but it's a little better, and I think trimming the bottom, ears, and front has bought me several more weeks before we'll have to head back to the salon.  Big thanks to my friend, Becky, for the fancy scissors and the courage to give this a try!  (Her kid's haircuts look WAY better than this, by the way!)
