HO HO Holidays! (Part 3)

On our way up to Maryland for Christmas, we stopped in Williamsburg, VA to visit Christmastown at Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg.  The lights were beautiful at Christmastown.  Abbie took her first kiddie amusement ride, and everyone enjoyed the Sesame Street Christmas show.

Yes, we waited in line for about an hour for this... probably should have just waved from the window and moved on, but I promised Abbie she would get to see Santa.

For almost the entire evening, I had a child on my back.  Most often, it was Abbie.  It was helpful for moving through the crowds AND burning off the funnel cake!

Our hotel package included a suite, tickets and parking at Christmastown, a pizza and drinks, plus a hot breakfast buffet for all of us.  Awesome deal!  So, when we finally made it home and put the sleeping kids in their beds, we settled in for our free dinner and rest.
The next morning we made the 5 minute drive to Colonial Williamsburg's visitors center and trekked in to the town (yes, another kid on my back!).  It was cool to see the houses and buildings decorated for Christmas and hear the actors on the street.  We took a nice little horse and carriage ride, then had lunch and got on the road to Maryland.  Our exhausted children slept most of the way.

On Christmas Eve, the kids decorated gingerbread houses and a train (Jason's) and we celebrated with the family at Tony's cousin Jason's house.  It was cute to see all of the little kids running around.  They're multiplying every year!  Christmas Eve at the Myers' is not complete without a visit from Santa, played this year by Tony's cousin Justin.  The youngest kids wanted nothing to do with Santa, but the older kids enjoyed sitting on his lap, as did the families.

Before we headed out for the night, Abbie laid out Magical Reindeer food in the yard to make sure that Rudolph led Santa to our house.  We also set out cookies for Santa by the fireplace.  It must have worked, because Santa came!  Man, did he come!  The gifts were overwhelming.  Abbie's favorite was her fairy princess dress from Santa, followed by her puppet theater and princess castle from Nana and PopPop.

Jason, on the other hand, loved Taylor's gifts from the Bosses... a camoflouge 4-wheeler and a kitchen.

Today (the day after Christmas), we had a play date planned with a few friends from Tony's high school days at 10am.  It began snowing around 9am (did I mention it also snowed on Christmas eve?? and did I mention that I was really looking forward to some snow this year?).  We headed out at 10, slowly, expecting everything to be OK because the drive was short and the snow was supposed to turn to rain by noon.  Well.... there was a big hill leading into Annie and Justin's neighborhood, and a few cars were already stranded near the top.  Tony slowed down because he wasn't sure what was going on, we lost momentum, and boom!  we were stuck.  Another car tried to plow past us, got stuck and started sliding backwards toward us as we were getting ready to try to turn around and head back down.  Luckily it didn't hit us, even after it got slammed by a car careening down the hill.  So, taking no chances, we guided our car over onto the curb of the road, unloaded and kids, and walked the rest of the way to Annie and Justin's.  The rest of our friends didn't make it to the house, so we just hung out for a bit, and once the snow slowed and the roads were slushy, Tony, Justin, and Annie headed back to our car to dig it out while I took care of the 4 kids.  By then, a dozen or more cars were stuck on the hill.  The boys helped dig them all out, then drove our car back to the house.  It wasn't exactly the snow dream I had in mind, but it sure did make the trip memorable!
