We have been to two swim meets already. Abbie swam Freestyle and Backstroke in the first meet, then added Butterfly at this past Saturday's meet. This was her first time swimming Fly in a meet. In fact, she just really started working on the stroke a few weeks ago! In the last week alone, her 25yd time dropped from 1:15 to 0:48. Unfortunately, she got DQed for her first stroke being illegal, but I am so proud of her efforts nonetheless. Check out this horribly filmed video! :)
Something really special about the Parkwood Pirhanas Swim Team is the very inclusive family dynamic. The people are humble, kind, and supportive. This is exemplified in their awesome annual family talent show. Kids sign up and do all sorts of acts. Tonight, there was everything from poetry and speech reciting to music playing to dancing. I thought it was so cool how brave Abbie was to sign up this year, then how excited she got writing the creative story she read to the group tonight. The show ran late, but I won't be surprised if Abbie wakes up happy and excited to head to 6am practice tomorrow!
