The festival is only in its second year and is clearly still working out kinks. The kids were supposed to perform on "center stage", but as it turned out, the stage was so full of equipment set up for the feature band that would be performing later that night, and there was not room for the kids to dance. So, they danced in the street! Abbie's instructor was so cool about it, though, and the kids handled it pretty well themselves.
Being Musical Theater, Abbie's class was supposed to both sing and dance their piece, but many of the girls forgot to singing let the backup music carry the song for them. But Abbie sang her heart out and had many moments where she was fully engaged in the theatrics of her dance. I was so proud! For a 1st grader in her 1st year of dance, I think she did a fantastic job and I can't wait to see her Showcase performance!
After the performance, we stuck around to enjoy the festival. Jason loved the inflatables, including a crazy high slide, and they each played several games to win gold tokens. The feature band played great soul music, and the kids danced until after 9:00pm. We even caught a rare and sweet moment between the two of them!
