Girls' Weekend

This past weekend, Tony had to go up to Maryland for a quick business trip.  He took Jason along with him, leaving me and Abbie to enjoy a girls' weekend together.

On Friday night, we had a few of Abbie's friends and their moms over for a Mommy-Daughter night. We had dinner -- girls a one table, moms at another. And the girls put on a great karaoke show for us. It was nice to socialize with other moms, knowing the girls could essentially fend for themselves.  And the girls seemed to have so much fun that no one wanted to go home.  I think we'll definitely do it again sometime.  Abbie was so wired after her fun night, that she didn't go to sleep until about 9:40pm, and I crashed alongside her.

On Saturday, we had a chill morning listening to music in bed, and putting on a solo Karaoke show.

Then went to a pool party with several members of my choir.  Despite expecting many other children who never arrived, Abbie was a great sport and had fun anyway.  She's always happy in the water, of course.  Plus, she loved that I let her eat fruit with lime and nacho cheese tortilla chips for dinner.

Sunday was park day.  After a bike ride (me walk/running) on the trail, we hung out with Debbie and Austin at Kelly Road Park. The kids played then sang along to Taylor Swift songs (Abbie's new obsession).  Then, Abbie and I grabbed sandwiches at Quizno's and headed over to Morrisville Community Park to hang out with Russell and Madison.  It was nice to catch up with folks we don't get to see often anymore.

On Sunday afternoon and evening, I worked on painting the master bathroom, which was kind of a nightmare.  I began prepping and painting in the afternoon while Abbie read books next to me.  But, as I was doing the first wall, I kept thinking the color seemed off.  So, finally I painted right next to my original sample patch, only to find that it was indeed completely wrong!  We spent almost two hours in Lowe's trying to get it right (the solution was simple, but it took the employees a long time to come around to it).  Abbie was such a trooper.  We played acting games and she learned how to skip in slow motion while we waiting.  I did finally finish the project after Abbie went to bed (in my bed).  It took until midnight, plus some cleanup the next day.  But, crashing in bed next to my sweet girl was the perfect way to end the day.

We had such a good time in each other's company, that we decided to skip riding the bus Monday morning so we could spend an extra 30 minutes together.  We both remarked how nice and quiet it was around the house while the boys were gone (even though we missed them a bit).  I hope we get to do it again this year!
