Gem Mining

Today we went gem mining!  There's a place called Blue Diamond Gemstone Panning in Cary where you can buy a bag of dirt and rocks then sift through it to find gems.  It reminded me of Reed's Gold Mine, where I went on a field trip as a kid.  And since my kids are really into pirates and treasures right now, this was the perfect activity!  We went with our friends, Stephanie (mom), Samantha and Andrew (kids), who had suggested the adventure.  What fun!  The kids found some neat gems and are excited to wash them and save them in a treasure chest at home.
