We had great plans for the weekend. Tony was to spend 4 days in Maryland meeting with clients, studying for his CFP and seeing his family. And I had plans for bike rides with 2 new riding groups along with time to catch up on house-cleaning and other responsibilities.
Well, I kind of messed that up! I did manage to get the grocery shopping and errands run on Thursday after Tony headed off to MD. But for some reason, on Friday I forgot to turn my brain on. I left for the gym on my bike, having forgotten my bike lock. I left the gym after spinning class having forgotten my key and membership tag on the gym floor. And as I pulled up to an intersection on my bike, I hesitated too long before clipping out of my pedals and keeled over onto the asphalt! What an idiot I felt like!
I didn't realize I was really hurt until I got over to the sidewalk and started to black out as my arm swelled. Lucky for me, a very sweet woman named Julie jumped out of her car and rescued me. She took me to urgent care and stayed until I got in touch with someone who could pick me up. Ken Davis was my second savior on Friday, driving all the way across town, going to my house to get my wallet for money and insurance, helping the nurse cast my arm, taking me to get drugs and transporting me home. I owe him a lot! Especially since I pulled him away from the ever-important task of cleaning out his closet to take care of me!
My mom was my third savior, coming to take care of me Friday night and Saturday while Tony was still out of town. She was so patient with me and got me everything I could need.
Unfortunately for Tony, i think he got the worst end of the deal. The swelling in my arm created severe pressure on my hand Saturday afternoon and night to the point that I was crying in pain and the drugs were not working. We spent the night 2:30-6:30am in the ER getting examined and recasted. The nurses were great and they doped me up very well. The new cast is much better, and we finally got to sleep around 7am!
So now we play the waiting game. I am so anxious to get back to the gym, the pool, and back on my bike. While I won't be able to do the ride I registered for in July, and may not get to do the one in August either, I'm still planning on doing the MS ride. I hope to get on a stationary bike and start back lifting as soon as the doctor says I can. And I really hope I don't drive Tony too crazy in the meantime!
Thanks too everyone who has offered help and expressed concern. I really appreciate it! Here's hoping everyone else stays safe and I remember to turn my brain on next time I go out! :)

I'm so sorry! The words "patience is a virtue" came to my mind. I can visualize women of old cross stitching it. You will certianly need an abundance of it, 'cause your brain won't quit telling you of all the things you want & need to do. Lots of hugs. ~ Grandma
what? no picture?
If only I had a camera on the back of my bike to document the ridiculous fall! But alas, I will post no picture.
Laura, glad to hear that you seem to be doing better. Jamie and I just wanted to wish the two of you a very Happy 2nd Anniversary. Take care and we will talk to you both soon!
