Beat the Heat!

With my renewed parenting energy (thanks WVC Tour!), I'm determined to keep the kids busy for the rest of the summer.  But, MAN it's HOT!  It has taken some courage to get them out on the hottest days, and I'm thankful for friends who encourage us to get out.  Recently, we've been going to the playground, getting frozen yogurt and sorbet at Moonberries, and swimming in friends' pools.

Today, with the heat advisory, I decided to plan indoor activities.  So, I looked up the local library programs and decided on Music and Movement at the Southwest Library.  Jason didn't take such a great morning nap, but it worked out OK, because he woke up in time to have a snack and get us out in time to get to the library.  Abbie and Jason had fun dancing to the music and listening to the stories.  Neither of them wanted to give up their instruments!  I had to bribe Jason with my keys, which he made good and slobbery for the rest of the time we were there.

After the music program, we picked out some new books -- 4 for Jason and 5 for Abbie.  Who knows if Jason will read his, though.  Lately, all he has wanted to read are the two books we have with baby pictures in them!

With books in tow, we loaded back into the car and headed to the mall.  There, we enjoyed our packed lunch at the tables in the food court, and then Abbie got a little ice cream cone as a special treat.  Originally, I didn't really want to go to the food court at lunch hour;  I hate the crowds.  But, people today were so friendly, and they enjoyed watching and talking to my kids, so it turned out to be pretty nice after all!

On the way out of the food court, I discovered that our mall has awesome family bathrooms!  Seriously!  We walked in to one, and there was an adult toilet and sink AND a kid-sized toilet and sink!  It's the little things... :)

So, after lunch, we played at the mall play area.  I'm pretty sure the Southpoint Mall has the best play area in the whole triangle.  I love it!  Abbie and I used to go when she was younger, then we took about a year off, as she was getting bored.  Now, she has a whole new perspective, and is more daring to climb around in there.  And, Jason is mobile enough to make it fun for him, too!

They were completely wiped out by the time we left at 1:50pm, and I had two sleeping babes in the backseat by the time I got home.  Perfect!

We have been making a lot of forts lately when it is too hot to go out- both kids love it!

Glad you are feeling revived, I can only imagine how much that would be needed as a SAHM- hat off to you!

We should hang out at Southpoint sometime- its fun Sunday morning before the stores open!
