Today was a pretty rough day. Actually, yesterday was, too. Yesterday, Abbie spend 2/3 of the day crying, screaming and kicking. Between 8:30am and 2:30pm, we had a little less than two hours of peace, one hour of which was during her nap. I have no idea what caused this, but it has been obvious that she has been on edge for several days, and perhaps this was just a crescendo of that.
So, back to today... This morning, Abbie woke up at 4:49am, right about the same time that Tony was rolling out of bed (he kind of knocked her in the head as she approached our bed and he was getting out). She climbed into bed with me and eventually went back to sleep, but still got up at 6:10am. After breakfast, we had our normal potty time. She has been struggling with it for a few days, which I think has been because of whatever anxiety or discomfort she's been feeling. But, we were getting back on track today. So, as Abbie was finishing using the potty, I went upstairs to get her a dry pair of pull-ups. While up there, I noticed that our cat used the carpet instead of the litter box. I figured Abbie would be fine for a couple of minutes, so began cleaning up the mess. Well, things got quiet downstairs, and I got a little suspicious, but put off my suspicion long enough to finish cleaning upstairs. When I made it back down, I found that Abbie had made a complimentary mess (actually WAY messier). And so, the next hour was spent scrubbing carpet, and Abbie, and myself. Great way to start the day, no?
Well, it doesn't get much better after that. I actually checked the moon phase just in case we were in a full moon, so I'd know what to expect the rest of the day. No such luck. So, we head off to my doctor's appointment. Today, I was scheduled to have my cerclage removed, which I have been looking forward to and dreading at the same time. Most of the research I did indicated that the longer the stitch has been in, the more painful it will be to remove. And boy were they right! It was AWFUL!! My doctor was only successful in cutting the stitch. Removing it required some serious pulling that was so painful we had to stop. So, it's still there, but it's cut, and nature can now take its course.
I spent most of the afternoon laying low. I finished reading "The Help" (it's such a good read, that I endured the hand pain just so I could read it). Abbie napped in my bed, then hung out downstairs with me watching Mary Poppins. I had quite a bit of cramping and frequent, but irregular, contractions. Most of that was just side effects of the procedure today and has settled in the last couple of hours.
At this point, we don't really know what to expect. Labor could come in the next week, or could hold off for several weeks, as is sometimes common with cerclage patients. Only time will tell! I'm a little anxious for it, but at the same time, not sure if I'm ready for the huge change that will occur in our household. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
